Every year, the Women in Insurance Cancer Crusade (WICC) brings the insurance industry together to raise funds in the fight against cancer. The organizers talk to us about the importance of this initiative and ask you to give generously!

An important cause for the insurance industry

WICC was founded in 1996 in Ontario through the efforts of a group of insurance professionals determined to do their bit in the fight against cancer. Other chapters were created through the determination of local volunteers.

Since we have all been directly or indirectly affected by cancer, we are more aware of this issue today that we once were. The provincial chapter (WICC Quebec) was founded about eight years ago. It has been quite easy to spur the interest of volunteers willing to serve on the steering committee. Their ranks are constantly renewed, creating an even wider base of support for the cause. Despite some advances in the fight against cancer, we have to keep on supporting medical research and various initiatives to eradicate the disease once and for all. That's why WICC Quebec is pleased to be associated with the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS).

How can Quebec's insurance sector support this worthy cause?

WICC Quebec has been working hard to promote its mission among all insurance sector stakeholders, i.e. to rally industry figures in this fight for life. Our organization brings together Quebec-based companies and other insurance industry organizations with a view to supporting cancer research.

With each passing year, we are truly proud to count on the contributions of new supporters and partners. We encourage all industry members to take part in WICC Quebec's annual activities, including our breakfast conference, a benefit evening and special events such as "L'assurance ROCK pour WICC Quebec", organized jointly with insurance partners and featuring our industry's "stars of tomorrow"!

In support of WICC Quebec, a number of companies have elected to organize their own fundraising activities, including bake sales, casual Fridays, a golf tournament, running events, etc. In addition, AGRAQ, the provincial association of risk and insurance managers, generously dedicates all proceeds from its traditional pub quiz evening to our organization.

Fundraising target: $140,000

Since its creation in 2008, WICC Quebec has contributed over $580,000 to the CCS via a wide range of activities, chief of which is our benefit evening (scheduled for October 24). Last year, we donated a record-breaking $120,000 to the CCS. We hope that this year's figure will top $140,000.
