Mandatory insurance for ships carrying passengers

posted on January 10, 2019

On December 12, the Government of Canada issued a new regulation requiring  operators of Canadian passenger vessels to carry civil liability insurance against death or bodily injury. The minimum coverage amount is $250,000 for each passenger on board.

Most operators already have similar coverage; however, the new regulation will make liability insurance mandatory for passenger vessels under the Marine Liability Act.
