Industry Outlook > Successful inaugural insurance industry get-together
On January 29, some 200 people gathered in Montreal for the very first P&C insurance industry get-together (Rendez-vous de l’industrie de l’assurance de dommages). Louise Richer's presentation on humour in business settings, followed by a reception, was jointly organized by the leading insurance organizations, including the RCCAQ. This inaugural event was a resounding success!

Using humour to enhance professional relationships
Louise Richer, director of Quebec's National Humour School (ENH), kicked off the event by sharing insights into her entrepreneurial career. Marked by challenges, her path to success was made possible in part by her sheer tenaciousness. Her anecdotes certainly struck a chord of recognition with the brokers in attendance, who are also required to dip into their reserves of perseverance and creativity each and every day to ensure the prosperity of their businesses.
Ms. Richer described business humour as a key success factor in the workplace. In addition to humanizing employees (regardless of their hierarchical level), humour serves to create connections and foster creativity. She also dispelled the myth according to which humour indicates a lack of rigour. When used properly in a professional setting, humour can lead to meaningful discussions while also forging trust among colleagues. People who dare to be humorous and who are open to feedback have exactly what it takes for successful in-house communication!
