2015 was a good year for auto insurance brokers

In its annual report on financial institutions, Quebec's Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF) published information on insurers' shares* of the auto insurance market by distribution method. The figures indicate increased market share for brokers in 2015.

 In 2015:

  • Brokers accounted for 45% of the auto insurance distribution market, up from 43% in 2014.
  • The share for direct distribution fell from 57% to 55%.

 More specifically:

  • Individual auto insurance handled by brokers: up 3 percentage points to 38%.
  • Business auto insurance handled by brokers: up 1 percentage point to 87%.
