Change in business practices confirmed

posted on February 24, 2016

According to last week's survey, 83% of participants confirmed that Aviva would only be maintaining links with brokers with portfolios valued at $500,000 or more.

 Size of brokers' Aviva portfolios

 According to the survey participants:

  • 56% of brokers have Aviva portfolios valued at less than $500,000.

(Of that number, half have portfolios valued between $200,000 and $500,000 while half have portfolios valued at less than $200,000.)

  • 44% of brokers have portfolios valued at $500,000 or higher.

For the RCCAQ, it is unacceptable for Aviva to make such a radical change in such a cavalier manner:

  • 5% of brokers were informed by Aviva via email.
  • 16% were informed via a telephone call with a company representative.
  • 79% were informed via the RCCAQ

Aviva's strategy stands to greatly reduce the variety of products that brokers can offer. In addition, some brokers with portfolios valued at less than $500,000 have indicated that their relationships with Aviva are already starting to suffer. In particular, the insurer is more reluctant to accept claims while service in French is increasingly hard to obtain.

The better informed we are, the better our meeting with Aviva will be.
