RCCAQ in action > Changes in auto insurance claims since 2006
In its 2015 annual report on financial institutions, the Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF) sheds light on changes in auto insurance claims over the years.
For example, the average cost per claim for passenger vehicles has gone up for "civil liability" and "collision and rollover" coverage over the past 10 years, whereas it has gone down for "accidents without collision or rollover" over the same period (see diagram below in French only).

The AMF's data also indicates significant reductions in passenger vehicle thefts and window/glass breakage since 2006, as shown in the following table:
|
Partial thefts |
Complete thefts |
Window breakage |
|
Down 59,3 % |
Down 73,3 % |
Down 9 % |
The large drop in thefts over the past decade would appear to indicate that insurers' efforts to encourage consumers to install anti-theft systems (tracking/marking devices, for example) have had a positive impact on the frequency of vehicle thefts. The installation of standard anti-theft systems in new vehicles by manufacturers has also facilitated these efforts.
