Meeting with the finance minister's office

posted on July 27, 2016

As Mr. Leitão noted during our meeting on Parliament Hill in Quebec City, the finance ministry is in the process of holding consultations on potential amendments to Bill 188. In this regard, the RCCAQ's representatives held talks at the finance minister's office last week.

The RCCAQ's three representatives were Patrick Bouchard and Guy Parent, together with André Bois, who serves as the RCCAQ's legal expert. They put forward our organization's viewpoints on online insurance sales, distribution without certified representatives and oversight of representatives. We advanced the arguments that appeared in the position paper we submitted in September 2015. While discussing these three key issues with the finance ministry team, we made sure to cover all of the nuances and subtleties involved.

We are very pleased to note that the ministry was receptive to our arguments. This is an additional step in our strategy to promote the positions of brokerage firms and brokers, following our activities on Parliament Hill, meetings between brokers and their MNAs and discussions with numerous influential actors in the insurance sector.

The ministry's consultations will be continuing until August 10. The government's goal is to table a bill this fall.
