Cybersecurity: reducing the risk of falling victim to a cyber attack thanks to our training activities specially designed for brokerage employees and brokers

affiché le 20 décembre 2018

More and more, cybersecurity is in the headlines, with many individuals and organizations falling victim to incidents and/or data piracy. In addition, the issues at stake and the precautions that should be taken to reduce risks remain less than clear for many observers.

Since many businesses are not aware of the full range of IT security risks to which they are exposed, they have a long way to go before they will have effective protection in place. That means they need crucial information before they take action and reduce their risks.

In partnership with Cyberswat, the RCCAQ is offering brokers and other employees of your organization a cybersecurity information course that will give you the tools you need to protect your business.

Why do employees need to be more aware of cybersecurity?

As noted before, most companies are aware of their IT security risks. Some end up installing technology to protect against external risks, although they forget that risks sometimes come from within.

What everyone needs to know is that around two-thirds of IT attacks stem from negligence or malicious acts by employees. *

Each employee is a potential gateway for a cybersecurity incident. When you think about it, it might seem obvious: your employees have access to numerous systems and types of data. That means they're on the front lines when it comes to protecting – or jeopardizing – the information in those systems.

That also means that all it takes is one employee error or one malicious act to override all the technological protection you have in place! Against that backdrop, we have put together a training activity geared towards a range of insurance industry stakeholders.

Effective cybersecurity training

Individuals who complete this training activity, worth 2 Professional Development Units (PDUs), will come away with a clearer idea of the basics of cybersecurity and will be able to reduce the risks of falling victim to IT or data attacks.

In addition to explaining the false sense of security that many individuals and companies have with respect to data theft, we will cover various types of lurking threats. Participants will receive crucial information on the potential costs of security incidents and the key factors set to raise these costs even further. We will also cover the new data protection rules that came into effect in Canada on November 1, 2018.

In concrete terms, how is this cybersecurity training activity structured?

Before the activity begins, a short questionnaire will be sent out to the participants. The answers will serve to identify the group's strengths and weaknesses ahead of time so we can personalize the experience to the greatest possible extent.

The two-hour activity will include presentations, scenarios and experience sharing, as well as question-and-answer sessions.

By the end, participants will be more aware of the basics of cybersecurity and the issues facing businesses today.

They will also know how to recognize threats and will develop the right reflexes aimed at avoiding high-risk situations and behaviours.

If you are interested in a private group training session (either online or in-house), please send us an email (cleyre@rccaq.com). We will get back in touch with you.

Did you know that a training activity focusing on cyber risk insurance is also available for brokers? This activity will shed light on the basics of corporate cybersecurity and how cyber risk insurance can be included in a company's risk management strategy.
