Once again, the RCCAQ Training team can say “Mission accomplished”! The 2021-2022 year was not only rich in training provided to all certified brokers, but it also flourished with innovations.

Topics of interest

Since it was the conclusion of a two-year reference cycle (December 31, 2021), the training calendar included some 20 activities on 35 different dates, all presented by experienced instructors (French link). For example, five compliance-related sessions were added to the offer last year, focusing on business continuity plans and note-taking in client files. These activities will also be offered in the upcoming calendar for 2022-2023 (French link). Please stay tuned for more details!

Over the past year, topics such as cybersecurity, condo ownership changes and staffing needs were covered. Taking place on the Zoom platform (as did all training activities last year), these activities were greatly appreciated!

Partnership and innovation

In 2021-2022, RCCAQ Training offered courses such as Information Security Awareness (AF1017), in partnership with the Chambre de l’assurance de dommages (ChAD). Consisting of 12 videos, this activity helped to make brokers more aware of technology security best practices.

In addition, RCCAQ Training embraced innovation by organizing a 90-minute HR training session (presented by Soluflex). This activity was primarily geared towards managers in the insurance sector (impact of a good HR strategy on managers’ quality of life, levels of responsibility and importance of delegating, impediments to delegation and how to overcome them, etc.).

Flagship activities

Broker 101-102

With a view to preparing prospective brokers for the Autorité des marchés financiers exams leading to the official “certified broker” designation, the RCCAQ has run the comprehensive course Broker 101-102 since 2013.

Available in playback mode (“on demand”), this course enables prospective brokers to acquire or broaden the knowledge they need to access the broker profession, all within just a few months. In addition, upon completion, participants can continue the process by obtaining a personal or commercial insurance permit. As shown in the table below, large numbers of people registered for this course last year (up 45% from the previous year). It is also nice to note that the Broker 101-102 instructors are recognized throughout the insurance industry and that the pass rate is over 90%.

Other areas

To give just a few examples, training in the following areas was offered in 2021-2022 (the links lead to French information):

» Compliance

→ Why do we need a business continuity plan (BCP)?

→ Introduction to BCPs

→ Implementing a BCP

» Administration

→ The art of delegating

» Law and Legislation

→ Cyber-risk coverage

Registration statistics

Whether for Broker 101-102 or other web-based training, “on demand” or on-site (actually remote due to the pandemic), the registration numbers for 2021-2022 were very encouraging. There is no doubt that prospective brokers as well as certified brokers are responding positively to the RCCAQ’s training offer.

Outlook for fall 2022

Needless to say, the upcoming training calendar (scheduled for publication in mid-September) will be focused on our “tried and true” activities. In addition, we will be embracing innovation and pursuing the presentation of partnerships that stand to bring value added to RCCAQ members.

Broker 101-102 will continue to serve as RCCAQ Training’s flagship course. New training activities may also be added. As mentioned previously, the sessions dealing with business continuity plans and note-taking in client files will be held once again in the fall.

As regards partnerships, we can confirm that the recently renewed agreement with ChAD will be moving forward with a view to underscoring the importance of cybersecurity, cloud computing, etc.

And with the second reference year (2023) just around the corner, the 2022-2023 training calendar will enable certified brokers to get a head start on the PDUs they must obtain between January 2022 and December 2023. After all, why wait until the last minute?

Watch out for our upcoming training calendar and register as soon as possible!

Please note that the RCCAQ Training team, made up of Marie-Pier Proulx-Lauzon, the RCCAQ’s marketing and member experience advisor, and Bertrand Rouault, business development director, are certainly not sitting idly by during the summer months! Indeed, they both remain available if you have any questions!
