In mid-March, the training calendar had to be revised and all in-house training activities scheduled for brokerage firms were either cancelled or postponed due to the COVID-19 crisis. In line with public health directives, those measures will remain in effect until further notice. However, brokers can still hone their skills thanks to the pre-scheduled web-based and self-paced training activities, which have been maintained despite the crisis.
Topics of interest
Some of the most popular training activities this year addressed topics of interest and current hot-button issues, including new co-ownership rules and cybersecurity threats/risks.
Strong partnerships
2019-2020 also featured two training partnerships with the Chambre de l'assurance de dommages. The first of these, Information security awareness, consisted of 12 short videos designed to familiarize certified insurance brokers with the best practices to adopt in the area of technology security. Over 130 people have already signed up for this two-hour activity. Worth 7 PDUs, the second partnership activity, Managing a remote team, was presented as a webinar for managers, supervisors and owners of brokerage firms. The four available sessions filled up quickly due to the pressing need for managers to get to grips with the new reality caused by the current pandemic.
Still to come this year
The team is currently working on calendar planning for 2020-2021. Web-based activities will necessarily play a key role, in line with the current reality. To maintain close ties with its clientele, the RCCAQ training team will be sending out a survey in the near future to get an idea of your training needs and expectations for the coming year.
