A recent study on consumers' online habits sheds light on a number of interesting issues. Here is the first of three articles summarizing the expectations of today's consumers.

First: design is important!

  • 93% of consumers regard visual appearance as being the key component of online purchasing decisions.
  • 52% of potential buyers leave (and never return) if they don't like a website's look and feel.

Second: make things easier for consumers!

  • 73% of consumers are more likely to purchase a product or service if they can watch an explanatory video first.
  • Replacing an image with a video on your homepage could increase your conversion rate by 12%.

Third: your technology has to be up to date!

  • Nearly 65% of consumers are unwilling to wait for more than three seconds for a website to load.
  • 75% of users will abandon a website if it is not geared towards smartphones.
