Various activities were held during the recent convention, which drew a wide range of brokerage industry stakeholders. Here is a brief summary, which will be followed by a more detailed article in the next issue of Liaison + magazine.
Regulators in attendance
Speaking to a full house, Quebec's finance minister, Carlos J. Leitão addressed the RCCAQ's traditional banquet. Prior to that, AMF CEO Louis Morisset presented a lunch seminar attended by nearly all of the convention-goers. Needless to say, issues surrounding Bill 141 and Bill 150 were raised by both speakers.
New chair, new board
Christopher Johnson, broker and owner of AMR Assurances Multi-Risques, became the RCCAQ's new chair on November 15. The new board members were also presented by Mr. Johnson during his introductory speech. Here is a list of the 2017-2018 board members.
Jean-Luc Mongrain moderates the insurers panel
During the highly anticipated insurers panel, Mr. Mongrain questioned representatives of Aviva Canada, Economical Insurance, Intact Insurance, L'Unique General Insurance, Northbridge Insurance, Promutuel Insurance and RSA Canada about their views on the legislative changes that are upending our industry.
Éric Desjardins: 2017 Junior Broker of Distinction award
Éric Desjardins of Prima Assurances has won the 2017 Junior Broker of Distinction award, which was presented together with LARAQ. Mr. Desjardins stood apart from his competitors by his professionalism and commitment. In addition to a $1,000 cash prize, Mr. Desjardins will be profiled in next issue of Liaison+.
