In Focus > FCSA automobile accident/claims database: RCCAQ continues to lobby on its members' behalf
Following discussions with Quebec's Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF), particularly as regards brokerage firms' automatic access to the provincial automobile accident/claims database (Fichier central des sinistres automobiles/FCSA), particularly when automobile insurance products are sold online, the RCCAQ will continue to lobby on its members' behalf.
During meetings with the regulatory authorities in recent months, discussions focused on a vexing issue: brokers have to consult the FCSA acting on behalf of the insurer rather than of their clients. This is clearly unfair. By all accounts, this issue is widely recognized and a series of workshops will be held in the coming weeks.
Amid growing online sales, it is essential that brokers have free and fair access to the database. Although it is difficult to provide a precise timeline, all parties involved are involved in a process of deliberation. The discussion points include the eventual authorization of brokers' direct access to the database, provided that they are able to meet the same cybersecurity requirements that insurers do. The overriding goal is to ensure the optimal protection of personal information.
The RCCAQ will continue to help its members enhance their access to this essential work tool as part of their client service efforts.
