According to a recent Léger survey for the Coalition pour une relève en assurance de dommages, growing numbers of Quebecers look favourably on the insurance professions. In addition, let's not forget that another Léger survey for the Journal de Montréal, (Les professions du bonheur : des métiers et des emplois qui rendent heureux), whose findings were released in September 2021, demonstrates that the insurance broker profession is among the Top 25 happiest jobs and professions.

However, the Coalition survey findings confirm that a higher degree of awareness is needed among prospective insurance professionals: barely 23% of Quebecers are aware that a junior college diploma (diplôme d’études collégiales/DEC) in the area of insurance techniques and financial services can open the door to a variety of careers offering competitive salaries and an excellent job placement rate.

Over the past 15 years, the Coalition has been surveying Quebecers to gauge their perceptions of insurance careers. Although 40% of the respondents had an unfavourable view of these professions in 2006, that number dropped to 25% by 2021. And here's another interesting statistic: the stability and good pay associated with these jobs are recognized by 38% of the respondents.

As Robert LaGarde, President and CEO of the Coalition, notes: "In addition to enjoying enviable working conditions and job security, insurance professionals have the power to help people and overcome challenges every day. We need to demystify the insurance field in order to attract young people who are seeking careers. New trends and technologies such as the sharing economy, self-driving vehicles, artificial intelligence and big data are transforming the industry while prompting professionals to update their knowledge continuously. Selecting an insurance career is a winning choice!"

Full details on the survey findings are available on the Coalition's website.
