Jean-Pierre Tardif, the RCCAQ’s new board chair, officially began his mandate on November 23, 2021 amid a sense of great optimism and determination.
Dedicated brokerage career
Since 1999, Jean-Pierre Tardif has served as president and CEO of Assurancia Groupe Tardif, headquartered in Thetford Mines. Having worked as an insurance broker for close to 25 years, he has helped to create his company’s steady growth path, which includes no fewer than 20 acquisitions in the space of 15 years!
Jean-Pierre is recognized for his outstanding strategic leadership skills and his long-term vision.
His learning curve over the past 25 years is, as he puts it, “a solid foundation enabling me to understand the issues facing the RCCAQ’s members and to represent their interests”.
Passionate and determined
Seeking a more active role in his industry, Jean-Pierre became an RCCAQ board member back in 2018. Deeply determined to promote the insurance broker profession and to defend brokers’ socio-economic interests in dealings with multiple stakeholders, he strongly supports the relevance and essential role played by professional brokers in today’s world.
“Today, we have some 500 firms and branch offices and over 4,000 brokers operating in all regions of Quebec. These are all well-paid jobs. As an industry, we are right in the heart of our community thanks to our social involvement,” he noted.
In his new role of RCCAQ chair, Jean-Pierre intends to take all necessary steps to keep on modernizing the profession and promoting the role of professional brokers.
Jean-Pierre’s vision of the brokerage sector
Collegiality, teamwork, commitment, modern approach and community are the key words that perfectly describe Jean-Pierre’s vision of the brokerage sector. “Working alone, you can go fast. But working together, you can go far,” said Jean-Pierre. For him, communication and the active mobilization of all brokers working towards a shared goal is the key to success. He intends to listen carefully to members and to represent them actively in certain priority areas that are sources of concern for the profession. He also plans to move forward with projects that could drive the brokerage sector and reposition it within the insurance industry.
“We must take back the market share we are entitled to. And we must do so working in the interests of our clients, who continue to remain our foremost concern,” he added.
Proud to be a broker
Jean-Pierre Tardif said he would like to maintain our traditions while pursuing constructive exchanges with RCCAQ members on various issues facing brokers. In his view, “A team that challenges itself is a team that wants to win and can win.” Along the same lines, he is seeking to shine a spotlight on a key consideration for brokers, namely “taking pride in being a broker”. Ideally, that same principle should continue to shape ways of thinking within the community.
“My son Nathan just completed his college-level insurance program to become a broker. I’m very proud of him, believe me. This sense of pride that unites us should now be brought out into our communities by whatever means. We need to promote the profession, that is, our profession.”
According to Jean-Pierre, brokers should never forget the noble cause that underlies their profession. They should always be aware of that fact so they can promote their profession properly. The way he sees it, brokers should take pride in the following:
Well aware of the responsibilities he will be fulfilling during his mandate, Jean-Pierre Tardif intends to meet the challenge of advancing his profession thanks to a combination of boundless enthusiasm, unrivalled humility and active listening.
“If by the end of my mandate I have helped to make us all feel a little prouder of who we are, my mission will have been a success. Let’s be proud of who we are!”
