Dear RCCAQ members:

I'm already halfway through my mandate as RCCAQ chairman. And what a mandate it's been! I'm privileged to represent our association during an especially important period for our future and I take pride in this opportunity.

I'm very pleased with what we've accomplished so far. Needless to say, the highlight of OPERATION BILL 188 (our top priority for the year) was Parliament Hill Day on May 25. The board and I are very satisfied with how our meetings went and with the receptiveness shown by our MNAs and the representatives of various ministries.

Lots of energy had been invested prior to May 25, notably by RCCAQ members! The efforts of our permanent staff, together with various members who wrote in to their MNAs and invited them to attend our cocktail reception, served to raise the awareness of our elected officials to our message. I am enormously grateful to you for your commitment to our cause.

In the next few months, we will be pushing forward with various initiatives aimed at raising the government's awareness of the issues raised by the proposed amendments to Bill 188. Rest assured that we will do everything in our power to protect consumers and brokerage professionals.

As part of our annual strategy, we are also seeking to boost the RCCAQ's visibility by taking part in various forums. In this regard, I was pleased to speak at a number of different gatherings. On each occasion, the goals were to promote our profession, to demonstrate brokers' importance in socio-economic terms, to protect consumers and defend brokers' interests in general. For your information, here are the main events at which I've spoken in recent months:

  • November 19, 2015: "The RCCAQ, a professional association", Insurance and Investment Convention (CAI).
  • January-April 2016: Various speeches at brokers' luncheons and meetings of banner representatives, e.g. Courtiers Unis [United Brokers], addressing the topics of Operation Bill 188 and the RCCAQ's strategic vision.
  • May 4, 2016 (Quebec City): "Operation Bill 188", Rendez-Vous Quebec.
  • May 11, 2016 (Montreal): "Damage insurance: planning for the future", Cercle des Assurances IARD [Property/Casualty Insurance Circle].
  • May 19, 2016 (Laval): "The RCCAQ's role in defending its members", Association of Professional Financial Services Advisors (APCSF).
Last but not least, we're currently planning the RCCAQ's annual convention, which will be held in Montreal this fall under the theme of "The client experience: a guarantee of our success". We will be preparing a very interesting program of activities based on this theme, which is more relevant than ever for our industry. I hope that many of you will be able to attend!

Thank you for your attention and have a great summer!

Patrick Bouchard
